Top Chick Flick's of the 90's

You and your best girlfriend are sitting at home trying to figure out what to rent in this age of action and sci-fi movies. True there are a lot of new releases this summer but you are thinking that you would like something a little more classic. Well this is the list for you. I'm about tho take you back, not way back mind you, but back in the day to find the top chick flick's of the last decade.

10. League of Their Own - I know it looks like a movie about sports but it really is about friendship and sisterhood. How can you not cry when the women all start to sing their anthem song as they are surrounded by the pictures from their youth or when the two sisters finally make peace. Plus this movie ask the age old quetion: Are there men in America who haven't seen Madonna's breast?

9. What's Love Got to Do With It - Every decade has to have that one movie that shows a womans strength and Angela Bassett as Tina Turner did it to profection. Not only did you feel for her plight you rejoyce in her triumph. Plus what a soundtrack. I dare you to stay sitting at the end. You will be singing the title track before the credits even start to roll.

8. Never Been Kissed - Whether you were popular in high school or the class nerd we all would like to go back with what we know now and what better way to do it then through Drew Barrymore's geek turned cool kid. Plus Micheal Vartan is way hot.

7. Waiting to Exhale - Four girlfriends living around each other and struggling through love and life. They have their ups and downs but they always have each other. If you have just been dumped this would be a great movie to watch.

6. Fried Green Tomatoes - Tuwanda!!! What more can you say? This is a great friend movie and a wonderful girl power movie. How can forget Kathy Bates ramming into the younger womens car just because they took her parking spot. This such a girlfriend movie that you almost can't watch it alone.

5. Ever After - Every girl wanted to have that glass slipper and find prince charming and Drew brings Cinderella to life with such love and vunerablity that you find yourself wanting to be her and protect her all at once. Not to mention a remarkable performance by Angelica Houston as the wicked stepmother. This is a timeless love story that will take you back to the first time you ever heard Cinderella and the wonder it inspired.

4. Sleepless in Seattle - Dad loses wife, son calls radio show, and woman hears talk show while in car. You really wouldn't think that this would be the makings of a great movie, but yes it was. With perfectly timed humor and two star-crossed loves that keep passing each other in the wind this movie is formula at it's best. Plus how can you not love Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.

3. Titantic - We all knew the story going in but this was the never told story. The lovers that were never meant to last. Through this epic story you come to care and love Jack and Rose as much as they loved each other. But this is not just a story about love but about all that were lost on the RMS Titantic. From the captain to the architect, you fall in love with each character. Like the song saids, "Their hearts will go on and on".

2. Ghost - One scene of this movie and it had to make the list: the pottery scene. Who will ever forget Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore's hands all covered in clay as the music swells. Yes crafts can be hot. This is a perfect movie to watch when you are missing someone. It is definately a tear-jerker but it's worth it.

1. Pretty Woman - Color me happy there's a movie here for two. A hooker and a high-powered business man with one week alone in Hollywood. Sadly it sounds more like real life lately then fiction, but my number one pick is packed with laughs, fun, and love. How could any movie of the 90's top it. Not only did it propel Julia Roberts to icon standing but it also gave hookers a good name (maybe that is why we have some of the problems we have today). If you don't own this you have to go out and rent it right now. Trust me you will be extactic that you did.

Are there more movies that could be on this list? Absolutely, but these are the tops in my book. So pop the popcorn, grab the kleenex, call up a great friend, and curl up on the couch. It is girls night in!

Hi,

Waiting to Exhale, Sleepless in Seattle and Pretty Woman are my favorites, Pretty Woman being the first.  I could watch that one 100 times and not get tired of it.

I think I've seen Fried Green Tomatoes but not sure if I ever saw the whole thing.

Some good suggestions here,,,one I also liked was On Golden Pond, (don't know when this came out, possibly late 80s?) but bring tissues with you for that one :)

Loved all of these...though "what's love go to do with it" to real/brutal for me to have ever wanted to see a second time...but most of these I"ve watched Many Times! I'm sure there are equally good chick-flicks from the 90s, but this is your list, your choices that you're sharing with others...and it's a good hub! BEST!
