How to Develop Your Own Style
58When was the last time you asked yourself, "How do I look?". I know that I stole that line from a style network show but it does apply here. Because if you don't remember then it has been way to long.
But what if you have never asked yourself how do you look or even but that much thought into it and now that you are older and working or dating you would like to but your best foot forward. What do you do then? You develop your own style.
Now I know that I am about to say something that is a little controversial but life is short. Anyway here is goes: everyone has style. There I said it. Everyone has style, but it doesn't mean that everyone will get your style. But whether they get it or not you do have it so lets look at ways to develop your own style or just give the style you already have a little update.
There are three easy ways to figure out your style or add a little something to your already established look.
1. Magazines - magazines are a girl and guys best friend. If your not sure what you like go pick up a few new mags and they don't even have to be fashion related. Go through and look at the outfits inside. See what jumps out at you and what doesn't. Circle the things you like or rip out the pages but as you continue to look you will start to see a certain flow start to appear.
2. Window Shopping - I know that retails stores are a scary place for some but there is no harm in just looking. I do a window shopping trip every season to update my look or just to see if there is something new out there that I like. It is so simple. Just walk through the stores and see what you like. Touch the fabrics and pull things off the rack and really look at them if they catch your eye. You can even try a few on and contray to what the sales people try to make you think you don't have to buy. Now I am a little rebelious and have always had a bit of a dangerous side so I will take a little digital camera with me and photograph myself in the clothes. I know it is a little on the risky side but at least it gives me an idea of what I looked like in the outfit and a chance to go home and think about it. Plus if I decide I really like it and it goes with my style then I know what it looks like and can go back and grab it up without a lot of hassle.
3. Your Closet - Even though I wrote this one last it should actually be the first place you start. Take a day and just live in your closet. Rearrange it are pull everything out and then put it back in according to outfits you would wear. If you don't start to see a pattern then call a friend and have them look. Trust me one of you will notice that most everything looks the same or it is just to eclectic for words. Either way you will have started to develop your own personal look.
If none of these things work then there are great personal stylist that can really help you define a look, but they can get a little pricey. My suggestion would be to try these tips first, call a friend second, and then call a stylist because unless your Kimora Lee Simmons or walking the red carpet on the daily I think you can do it yourself. Good Luck.
